Japan welcoming EU’s decision on easing import restrictions

General Secretary of the Cabinet of Ministers of Japan has welcomed the EU’s decision on easing restrictions on import of Japanese food products starting from next month, Caspian Energy News reports with reference to

YoshihideSuga told journalists on Wednesday that the European Commission will ease restrictions from November 14.

Since 2011, when the accident at Fukushima atopic power plant occurred, the EU has started demanding radiation check-ups and security certificates for agricultural and sea products delivered from 12 prefectures.

There will be no need for conducting such inspections and requiring certificates for some of these products.

Suga said that EU had made this decision as a result of the September meeting held between the Japanese PM Shinzo Abe and President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker.

He added that the government would continue making efforts to remove all restrictions imposed after the accident at the atomic power plant.
