Development of Absheron field to be launched in 2020

“French company Total will accelerate the development of the Absheron field and start production of the first gas as planned. The Absheron field with the large gas reserves will play a big role in meeting the domestic gas demand and achieving strategic targets for its export”, Minister of Energy of Azerbaijan Parviz Shahbazov said during the meeting with Total Vice President for Southern Europe and Caspian Region Bernard Clement, Caspian Energy News ( reports with reference to the press service of the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

“Within the scope of the second phase of development of the Absheron field, which will cover the period from 2020 to 2023, the annual volume of gas production will comprise 5 billion cubic meters”, Total Vice-President said.

The sides also discussed a possible participation of Total in the development of the offshore block, which includes the Umid field and the promising Umid-Babek field.

It bears reminding that Total is the operator and the owner of 40% of the project for the development of the Absheron field. SOCAR owns 40%, and French GDF Suez owns 20%.

The Absheron field is located 100 km off Baku. Its structure is similar to the already developed Shah Deniz gas-condensate mega-field.

The Absheron field was discovered in 2011 by Total.
