Iran plugged its activity in Sardar-e-Jangal for environmental considerations – Deputy Minister

We carried out exploration and reached oil in known as (editorial note) http://caspianenergy.net/en/investor-en/29126-the-field-is-slipping-through-the-fingers-why-socar-and-ministry-of-foreign-affairs-taking-no-action   Sardar-e-Jangal fields but we decided not to exploit these fields for environmental considerations, Deputy Minister of Petroleum of Iran Amir Hossein Zamaninia said in his interview with Caspian Energy. The so called (editorial note) Sardar-e-Jangal field is tapped as our priorities are in the south and in the common fields with our neighbors. We have 28 common fields with our neighbors: Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Turkmenistan and Iraq. Our priorities are in the south of Iran but not in the Caspian because our resources are limited there.  “We are not planning to develop it further for environmental considerations as I mentioned”, the Deputy Minister noted.

“We have very close relationship with SOCAR President Mr. Rovnag Abdullayev and we have invited SOCAR to come and to engage with us in development of our upstream programs”, Zamaninia noted.

In reply to the question about concrete plans of SOCAR, A. Zamaninia said that the “National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) qualified SOCAR as an international oil company which makes it eligible to come to Iran and to work in the upstream projects. It happened late in June.  But we don’t have any concrete projects yet. We are in the process of negotiations. SOCAR has to come up with a proposal as to which field it wishes to work in. They have not made a proposal yet but they have expressed a lot of interest towards this line of cooperation”.
