President: We want sooner change of the status-quo and settlement of the conflict Featured

“France, as a co-chair of the Minsk group, is making efforts to settle the Armenian-Azerbaijani, Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and we highly appreciate these efforts”, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev stated at the press conference held jointly with his French counterpart Francois Hollande in Paris on March 14, Caspian Energy News ( reports with reference to the press service of the President of Azerbaijan.

“In particular, I would like to note the meeting held between me and Armenia’s President at your initiative late in 2014 in the Elysian palace. It was a very constructive and positive meeting. Unfortunately, certain stagnation was observed in the negotiations after this meeting. We want sooner settlement of the issue on basis of the regulations and principles of the international law. For many years now Azerbaijani lands, recognized by the international community, have been under the Armenian occupation. Nagorniy Karabakh and adjacent 7 regions have been under their occupation. The whole Azerbaijani population, hundreds of thousands of people has been banished from these lands. The whole infrastructure and buildings are destroyed there. OSCE missions have twice been to the occupied lands and reflected it in their reports. The UN Security Council has passed 4 resolutions in this regard, which state that the Armenian forces must be immediately and unconditionally moved out of the occupied lands. These resolutions were passed early in 1990s. As is seen, Armenia has no intentions to fulfill these resolutions. Therefore, at the first stage it is necessary to have the negotiations resumed as soon as possible. Armenia must not avoid negotiations. As President Francois Hollande noted, the status-quo is not acceptable. Presidents of countries co-chairs of Minsk Group – France, Russia and America have repeatedly stated that the status-quo is not acceptable. We state the same thing and want sooner change of the status-quo and settlement of the conflict so that to ensure peace in the region and return Azerbaijani people to their native lands”, President of Azerbaijan stated.
